Review of the Berlin Aviation Summit 2018
The Berlin Aviation Summit is designed as a platform for high ranking key players in politics and science, industry, finance and global air traffic debating important developments and possibilities for the future of aviation. In 2018, the main topics were digitalisation and energy transition and how they will move the rigid air transport system.
The programme offered several highlights, keynotes and panels, dealing with fundamental topics of future aviation.
The panellists Marc Allen (President Boeing Int.), Johannes Bussmann (CEO Lufthansa Technik), Tom Enders (CEO Airbus), Patrick Ky (CEO EASA) and Éric Trappier (Chairman GIFAS, Chairman & CEO Dassault Aviation) gave a glimpse of the next generations of aircraft while Sergey L. Chernyshev (Director General TsAGI) and Jaiwon Shin (Associate for Aeronautics NASA) talked about possibilities leading to a zero-emission aviation. In a third panel, Fang Liu (Secretary General ICAO) and Michael Menhart (Chief Economist Munich Re) discussed who will shape the future of aviation.
The BAS 2018 was glad to welcome Frank Anton (Excecutive VP Siemens eAircraft, Siemens AG), Dietrich Brockhagen (Executive Director atmosfair), Rafael Schvartzman (VP Europe IATA), Mike Sinnett (VP Product Strategy and Future Airplane Development Boeing Commercial Airplanes), Clara de la Torre (Director Transport, European Commission) and Simon Weeks (CTO ATI) amongst the panelists.
The BAS was also honoured to welcome Patrick Gandil (Directeur Général - Direction Généralee de l'Aviation Civile de France), as well as Oliver Wittke (Parlamentarian Secretary of State, Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, Germany) who were invited to frame the technological and economic conditions and to further the political exchange.
