AXICA Congress and Convention Center

The Pariser Platz, where East and West come together, reflects the history of several centuries. Ever since the Brandenburg Gate was built in 1791, it has defined architectural standards. Royal standards, because this gate introduced building heights and materials to the Pariser Platz that had until then only been used at the royal court and for other prestigious buildings.

It is here, on the east side of the Brandenburg Gate, that the DZ BANK Building was constructed: with offices, a separate residential section, and an unusual area that is ideally suited for holding conferences, congresses, symposiums, and evening events – professionally managed by AXICA, a subsidiary of DZ BANK. With this architectural masterpiece, Frank O. Gehry succeeded in giving an exceptional answer in his own unique visual language to the postmodern buildings characterising the Pariser Platz.

Frank O. Gehry was born as Frank Owen Goldberg in Toronto, Canada in 1929. He changed his name in 1951 while studying architecture at the Los Angeles campus of the University of California (UCLA). For decades, he has been setting new standards worldwide with his expressionist building style. He has received prizes for many of the buildings he designed – including the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The organic shapes of nature, and especially those of fish, have had a great influence on the architect’s work.

In the DZ BANK Building, Frank O. Gehry has created unusual spaces bursting with energy and dynamism. It counters the severe, straight lines of the Pariser Platz with gracefully curving glass domes and projecting shapes. At the core of this architectural achievement is the biomorphous form of the plenum. It is a gigantic sculpture with a brushed stainless steel skin that visitors can actually walk into. Inside it is an unusual conference room that seats up to 85 people.

Noble materials and unusual designs define the atmosphere of the rooms: for instance, the calm and beauty of arcades paneled with Oregon pine and the lightness of glass sculptures by the American designer Nikolaus Weinstein in the forum, which is large enough to accommodate 500 people or the sheer joyfulness of the interior of a lounge designed by Frank O. Gehry himself, and the dynamic energy exuded by a red wall-to-wall carpet covering 900 square metres. There’s plenty of room for your special events – gala dinners, presentations or conferences – which AXICA will be happy to help you organise and create in accordance with your particular wishes.

Discover the art of perfect indulgence: Culinary innovation, perfect arrangement and accomplished presentation – these are the ingredients for AXICA. CATERING. Whether it is cocktails, entrées or five-course menus: You can select regional and international dishes from our broad repertoire, based on personal preferences or the theme of your event.

Philosophy and science, sculpture and design – many disciplines come together in this building. The result is an architecture full of palpable energy and inspiration – A challenge for the senses. A masterpiece of form and color, about which Frank O. Gehry remarked:

“The best thing I’ve ever done”.
